Volunteers Needed for October 8 Cumberland Clean Event
From Cumberland County Solid Waste: Cumberland County Solid Waste is sponsoring a Cumberland Clean litter pickup event that will coincide with the Fayetteville Beautiful event on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Approximately 100 volunteers picked up 3,000 pounds of litter at the Cumberland Clean event earlier this year in April. To register as a volunteer, visit cumberlandcountync.gov/cumberlandclean, or email Tim Middleton at tmiddleton@cumberlandcountync.gov.
Volunteer groups of all ages are encouraged to participate and may choose their cleanup locations. Volunteers will receive an event T-shirt, trash bags, water, gloves, a reusable litter bag and hand sanitizer.
Solid Waste Management will also be at the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Courthouse, 117 Dick St., in Fayetteville on the morning of the event to register volunteers until 9:30 a.m.
Event Day:
- 8:00 – 9:30 a.m.: Volunteers should drive into the marked entrance in front of the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Courthouse. Organizers will be in the front parking lot along Gillespie Street to confirm cleanup locations. Participants can go directly to their cleanup location if they arranged to retrieve their personal protection items prior to the event.
- 8:00 a.m. – Noon: volunteers will pick up trash from designated areas.
- Once the cleanup is finished, volunteers will be asked to leave their trash bags at their assigned location.
- Solid Waste crews will remove the trash bags and take them to one of the County’s 17 container sites.
Cumberland Clean was established in 2021 as a biannual initiative aimed to help alleviate litter throughout Cumberland County.
