Billionaire Advice: Give Back In Challenging Times
From as far back as I can remember, my parents and family taught me to always be grateful for what I have and to always give back especially during challenging times.
Let’s go back to our high school or college graduation. How much do you remember from the commencement speaker or the guest speaker?
On May 27, 2014, a billionaire by the name of Robert Hale Jr. was invited to give the commencement address to the graduates of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Little did the graduates know, but this day would hopefully be a life-changing day for each of those in attendance.
Hale, the Chief Executive Officer of Granite Telecommunications gave every graduate of the college $1000 and gave the money to them in cash.
Hale said, “there are customized envelopes in that truck over there. One envelope says Gift. One says Give. The first is our gift to you. Each of you is getting $1,000 cash right now.” Can’t you just hear the cheering right now?
Hale then challenged each of the students saying that of the $1000, the first $500 was for themselves. The other $500 was for the graduate to donate to a charity. Hale emphasized the importance of giving back in challenging times.
What an awesome teachable moment.
Maybe the three of us can’t give cash but what can we do to make someone’s day a little better.

Also, stay alert for opportunities to give back in challenging times. For example. The next time you are leaving the grocery store, look around. Someone with mobility issues might be having difficulty loading their groceries into their car. Be a helping hand. Be a blessing to someone today.
Go get ’em tiger! God don’t make no junk. You, yes you are awesome! Now go be awesome!
