Fayetteville Man Nabs Over $400k for Cash 5 Lottery Win
Another big North Carolina Education Lottery winner coming out of Fayetteville, as Shaquille Johnson won a $421,434 jackpot in Monday’s Cash 5 drawing.
Johnson got his Quick Pick ticket at the Short Stop on Morganton Road in Fayetteville.
“My heart was beating so fast,” Johnson sold NCEL. “I just froze.”
Johnson is a 27-year-old line cook and said he likes playing when the jackpot gets higher. He checked his results after work Monday night and almost missed his big win.
“I saw the jackpot was back down to $100,000 so I figured someone else won,” he laughed. “I was just thinking, ‘Wow. This is amazing. I was in total shock.”
After required state and federal tax withholdings, Johnson took home $300,272 Tuesday, which he plans to spend on a car and a house.”
Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in Fayetteville and North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets through a retail location or Online Play, either through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. The odds of winning a Cash 5 jackpot are 1 in 962,598. Tuesday’s jackpot is $100,000.
