Kick Butt Tip: Be Of Assistance To Someone Today
Today’s Kick Butt Tip of the Day comes from Adam Grant, a really popular author and a man who happens to be a professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. “The more I help out, the more successful I become. But I measure success in what it has done for the people around me. That is the real accolade.”
That particular Adam Grant quote reminds me of something Danny Thomas once said. “No man stands so tall as to when he stoops to help a child.” We both know Danny Thomas and his dream still lives today with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Since 1962, St. Jude has helped kids and their families get through the toughest battles of their childhood with various childhood cancers.
When I think of helping others, I remember comedian Jerry Lewis and his annual Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon. The hugely popular TV event aired every year on Labor Day from 1966 until 2014.
And most recently I was reminded of a story that surfaced after the passing of country superstar Toby Keith. Toby was instrumental in helping Taylor Swift get her music career started. I believe the year was 2006 and about every record label in Nashville had turned Taylor down for one reason or another. Toby Keith encouraged a fellow record label head at Big Machine Records to add Taylor to his stable of artist and it happened. We all know how that wise move turned out. Taylor was only 15 at the time. She later told Nashville TV station WSMV4 that “you’re in the room with him and you can feel it. There’s a power there. And you’re just like ‘Oh my God.”
Always remember that God don’t make no junk. You, yes you are awesome! Now go be awesome!
Go have the best weekend ever and be of assistance to someone. Be a blessing.
