Sarah’s Fitness Journey Update: Wishing Tacos Made Me Fit
Did I fall off the wagon? Yes! Did I eat too much Mexican food? Also yes! Good thing is there is still time to recover and bounce back!
I would be lying if I said fitness is easy. It is a complete life style change. It’s a choice that you have to make over and over again to help build the habit of being fit. Perhaps you’ve heard of the 21/90 Rule? It takes 21 days to form a habit but it takes 90 days to create a lifestyle.
This isn’t just about going to the gym. It’s about making healthy food choices. It’s about skipping the Netflix binge and deciding to take a walk instead. It’s parking further back from the grocery store to take those extra steps. But most importantly, it’s about not beating yourself up for failing.
I had a major setback. I let 1 or 2 days off from the gym turn into weeks without working out. I let a few cheat meals turn into me eating more take-out than homecooked meals. Now I can either continue this trend and continue feeling like a failure. Or I can use today to turn it around. Easier said than done right?
For me, the motivation to “get back on the horse” starts with recognizing and acknowledging that I messed up. We’re all human. And we’re all on our own journey. This is MY race with MYSELF. And the only person I’m hurting is myself. I need to start over. Make those small daily changes that will eventually lead to the bigger changes. And of course, I need to get back to the gym! Any movement, even walking, is better than sitting on my butt watching Season 4 of Friends for the thousandth time!
So if you’ve had a setback recently, whether it be with your health, working out, your job or in your personal life… just know you’re not alone. And that no matter where you are in your journey, you can always change your path!
