Kick Butt Tip: Jim Carrey ‘How Will You Serve The World?’
Today’s Kick Butt Tip of the Day and the question of the day comes from comedian and actor Jim Carrey. How Will You Serve the World?
In 2014, Carrey was invited to speak to the graduates of Maharishi International University. Maharishi International is a private university located in Fairfield, Iowa.
Carrey shared this very inspiring story. “My father could have been a great comedian but he didn’t believe that that was possible for him and so he made a conservative choice. Instead, he got a safe job as an accountant. And when I was twelve years old, he was let go from that safe job and our family had to do whatever we could do to survive. I learned many great lessons from my father. Not the least of which was that you can fail at what you don’t want so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.
My father treated my talent as if was his second chance. When I was about 28 and after a decade as a professional comedian, I realized one night in Los Angeles that the purpose of life had always been to free people from concern, just like my Dad. When I realized that, I dubbed my new devotion, the church of the FFC, Freedom From Concern and I dedicated myself to that ministry.
How will you serve the world? What do they need that your talent can provide? That’s all you need to figure out.”
What Can You Do To Serve the World
From this day forward, resolve to be optimistic. See the glass as half full instead of half empty. If you encounter an issue at work, be the one to find a solution. Also, if you share a problem with the head of your company, also share 2-3 possible ways to solve the problem. Your boss will be impressed.
Right off the bat, one thing the world needs, in my opinion, is more optimism. I once heard a motivational speaker say that in ever adversity, there is a seed of greatness. Not matter how dire the situation, try to find the needle in the haystack. There is always a glimmer of hope.
God don’t make no junk. You are awesome. Now go be awesome!
